CHICAGO: Early results from the Return on Values research project display how CEOs of small and mid-sized businesses describe the relationship between their corporate cultures and their companies’ sustained growth and profit. These findings will be made available on a new website, www.returnonvaluesproject.com, established by the project’s founding partners.
The Return on Values project (ROV) is a three-year, $1 million research initiative of the Small Giants Community (SGC, www.smallgiants.org) and the Center for Values-Driven Leadership (CVDL, www.cvdl.org). The study asks the question, “In small and mid-size businesses, what is the relationship between culture and profit?”
The new website features basic information about the project along with insights gained from companies that actively develop strong cultures as a leverage point for profit and sustained growth. Content includes:
- An overview of the ROV project including information about methodology and timelines.
- Featured articles highlighting early themes from the project.
- Short videos and corresponding discussion guides for business leaders to use in team meetings or in business schools.
- Information about how to become involved with the ROV project.
Emerging results show a connection between people-focused cultures and leveraged business growth. “The relationship between culture and profit is through people…and it’s up and to the right,” says Dr. Jim Ludema, principal investigator for the ROV project and the director of the CVDL. “This happens because team members who are loved and cared for create customers who are loved and cared for, and that returns profit to your business. If you’re not leveraging culture to drive growth, you’re missing a big opportunity.”
