ABOUT THE RETURN ON VALUES PROJECT

Return on Values (ROV) is a multi-year, $1 million dollar research project that asks the question, What is the relationship between culture and profit in small and mid-size businesses?

While other studies have explored factors of culture or business strategy, almost no research exists on how culture can help privately-held companies achieve and even exceed growth expectations. The companies we explore have loyal customers and clients, highly-engaged employees, and consistently maintain strong gross margins.

Our research is conducted in two ways:

  • A quantitative survey – called the Return on Values Inventory, or ROVI – sent to more than 25,000 U.S. companies;
  • Qualitative deep dive case studies of exceptional companies. Our research explores what makes these companies so successful at growing strong cultures, developing positive leadership, and influencing exceptional profit.

Findings from the Return on Values Project are shared through this website, in the media, and in academic venues.
